Reyneke Organic Vinehugger, White, Chenin Blanc

The 100% Chenin Blanc grapes are sourced from beautiful organic vineyards situated 20 miles inland from the Atlantic ocean, on the valley floor of a hot and semi-arid region. The vines are planted in loamy soils, which add a great flavor profile to the Chenin Blanc grapes. The grapes are bunch sorted and destemmed and naturally fermented, 80% in stainless steel and 20% in matured in seasoned oak barrels. After six months further aging on the lees, the assemblage is assembled and bottled.

Reyneke Organic Vinehugger, White, Chenin Blanc 2023	93 Vinous The 2023 Chenin Blanc comes from two blocks planted in 1974 and 1976, pressed with whole bunches with no settling of the juice and racked straight after. It fermented in foudres and clay amphorae. This reminds me of a white Bordeaux on the nose, with hints of chai filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is very well balanced with tangy orange pith, apricot and hints of vanilla. Seductively textured, suggestions of caramelized pear develop toward the long finish.
