Reyneke
Reyneke Vineyards stands out as a pioneer in organic farming, committed to producing exceptional wines without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides. Rather than relying on chemicals, they embrace nature’s balance. By planting carefully chosen companion plants between the vines, Reyneke nurtures a healthier ecosystem. These plants not only outcompete weeds but also enrich the soil by fixing nitrogen and even attracting beneficial insects.
Pest control here is refreshingly natural—ducks patrol the vineyard, happily feasting on snails and fertilizing the soil in the process. This means no harmful chemicals find their way into the grapes, and the vines thrive without the need for synthetic fertilizers.
With independent certification backing their organic methods, Reyneke demonstrates transparency and dedication to sustainability. By allowing dandelions to grow, for instance, they provide a habitat for the Mealybug, which settles on the weeds’ roots instead of the vines.
Even when it comes to fungi control, Reyneke takes a gentle approach. They use minimal amounts of natural fungicides, like copper and sulfur, and are constantly exploring alternatives to move toward completely biological solutions. It’s a work in progress, but Reyneke is determined to lead the way in eco-conscious winemaking.
