Jean-Paul Paquet
The story of the Chateau itself started at the beginning of the 12th century when it belonged to the Seigneurie des Chaintré, one of the oldest families in the Macon region. The Chateau has been redeveloped and now comprises of a number of privately owned flats. Chateau de Chaintre is owned and run by Jean Paul Paquet and his family wine business. In preparation for their son Yannick joining the family business, Jean Paul and his wife Monique decided they needed to increase the size of their vineyard holdings. The perfect opportunity to do so arose in 2003 when they purchased this Domaine in Chaintré, in the old vineyard of Château de Chaintré, and comprises 6 hectares that produce Macon-Chaintre and Bourgogne-Chardonnay.
In 1978 Jean-Paul Paquet succeeded his father on the 3 hectares of «Domaine Les Vieux Murs». Over the next 10 years, he bought 9 hectares of vines increasing his vineyards’ surface to 12 hectares. In 1989, he created the renowned Domaine Fussiacus, named after the roman lord who founded the village of Fuissé. In September of 2005, Jean-Paul’s son, Yannick, who had just finished his studies in viticulture and oenology, joined his father at the Domaine. All the wines are produced in order to protect the environment, by using techniques from organic farming; hand-picking, pneumatic pressing, temperature control and no yeast addition.
