Hambledon Vineyard
Founded in 1952, Hambledon Vineyard is England’s oldest commercial vineyard and widely recognized as the birthplace of English wine. Located in the heart of the South Downs, in the historic village of Hambledon—also known as the “Cradle of Cricket”—the estate has long stood as a symbol of innovation, heritage, and excellence in English winemaking. Hambledon Vineyard is guided by the belief that excellent sparkling wine starts with two essentials: the highest-quality fruit and outstanding winemaking expertise. The team strives to produce the finest multi-vintage sparkling wines in England—earning both local pride and international acclaim.
The estate also embraces innovation in the cellar. Hambledon remains the only English sparkling wine producer to utilize a Solera reserve wine system, an approach inspired by Champagne. This method enhances the wines with added depth, complexity, and consistency, vintage after vintage.
Sustainability is at the core of Hambledon’s viticultural philosophy. Across 220 acres of estate-owned vineyards, the team employs regenerative viticulture—a holistic approach that enhances soil health, supports biodiversity, and reduces environmental impact. Practices include minimal soil disturbance, the use of cover crops, and natural nutrient cycling, all of which contribute to healthier vines and premium fruit quality, while sequestering carbon and protecting the land for future generations.
