Domaine Ponsot, Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru 2014

Wine Advocate
The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin. It resorts back to its broody nature. There is appreciable density here, quite tangy and spicy in the mouth with
layers of red berry fruit on the very saline finish. It will require 4-5 years in bottle, but the class is here.

Wine Advocate
Revisited in bottle, the 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and spices, mingled with hints of licorice and peony. Full-bodied, rich and structured, this has shut down hard in the last year, with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins in the foreground. It shows terrific potential but will demand patience.

Wine Advocate
Wafting from the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, spices and red fruit compote, the 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, its satiny attack segueing into a layered, concentrated core of fruit and a long, saline finish.

Decanter
The ’21 Chapelle-Chambertin from Ponsot shows a meticulous extraction. The nose is somewhat shut down at present, but the supple, bright red, and blackberry fruit explodes on the palate. The wine has abundant crisp acidity, well-managed tannins, and a pleasantly lingering finish. It is less forward than it has been in some years but seems built to age. It is produced from a parcel of nearly 0.50 hectares in the lieu-dit Les Gémeaux.

Decanter
The Chapelle-Chambertin from Ponsot is hitting its stride. This delicious wine has abundant ripe, plummy fruit with suitable complexity from notes of earth, leather, and game. The texture is focused, powerful, and dense – it seemed to me a very ‘Côte de Nuits’ style wine in its structure and length. It is produced from grapes from the domaine’s half-hectare of vines in En Gémeaux, picked late, destemmed, and aged after fermentation in used casks to create this substantial wine that will age for decades.

Vinous
The 2022 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet, very pure and mineral-driven, certainly demonstrating more complexity and nuance than the preceding Corton-Bressandes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This overtly sapid, marine-influenced Chapelle gets the saliva flowing. There is good density on the finish. I can see this aging with style, but it will require time in the bottle.

Wine Advocate
The 2022 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of plums and cherries mingled with smoke, licorice and rose petals. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit, sweet tannins and lively acids, this harmonious but authoritative wine is one of the highlights of the Ponsot range this year.
