Vina Real, Rioja Crianza Red
Viña Real is made from grapes grown in Rioja Alavesa where the people of the villages are dedicated almost totally to grape growing, this being a deep rooted tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
The grapes which make up Viña Real Crianza are sourced from our own vineyards in Laguardia and from our trusted providers in Rioja Alavesa who have supplied us for many years.
De-stemmed grapes were transferred to stainless steel vats for the alcoholic fermentation at temperature control between 26-28℃. Following completion of the malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to French and American oak barrels where it aged for 13 to 14 months. During this period the wine is racked every 5-6 months to encourage ripening and proper organoleptic development.
Bright ruby-red. Cherry, redcurrant, tobacco and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Deep, sappy, open-knit red and dark berry flavors pick up floral pastille and smoke nuances with air. Finishes broad and smooth, with slow-mounting spiciness and gentle tannins. Quite elegant for the vintage and drinking nicely right now.

Vina Real, Rioja Crianza Red 2019

Vinous
Deep ruby. Spicy red fruit preserve and potpurri scents are complicated by suggestions of vanilla, licorice, and mocha. Sappy and seamless in texture, offering sweet raspberry and cherry cola flavors that are sharpened by a snap of juicy acidity. Lively and penetrating on the gently tannic finish, which leaves floral pastille and smoky mineral notes behind.

High-toned, floral aromas with orange peel and crushed blackberries. Medium-bodied with tight, chewy tannins that are polished and intense. Serious length and focus. Vegan. Very drinkable now, but even better in 2024.

The fruit-driven, ripe and heady 2019 Viña Real Crianza was produced with 90% Tempranillo and the rest between Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano from a vineyard in the Sonsierra zone (call it Rioja Alavesa if you like). It has 13.75% alcohol and a pH of 3.6 and is polished and easy to understand and like. It has plenty of tannins; it calls for food. The oak is soft and integrated. They produced 650,000 bottles of this wine, which is bottled in four different lots.

Excellent, benchmark-quality Rioja crianza that shows the spicy side of the vintage. Peppery, juicy and bright, with a medium body and a nice chew of fine-grained tannins. Quite long. A smart buy. Drink or hold.

The 2012 Viña Real Crianza, from a very dry, early harvest, feels fresher than the 2011. It’s a similar blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha Tinta with Mazuelo and Graciano fermented in stainless steel and matured in barrel for 14 months. The wine was about to be bottled and showed really young with both ripe fruit and plenty of spices, hints of leather, fountain pen ink, black licorice and aniseed over a core of very ripe, showy fruit. It has a lush texture, still a bit too young with some tannins that should get polished with a little bit of time in bottle. However, this wine will not be sold before until the end of 2015. At this price level the quality is outstanding. 900,000 bottles of this wine will be produced.
