Val do Galir Mencia, Valdeorras 2024	93 Vinous The 2024 Mencía Val do Galir includes 15% mestura—the Galician term for a field blend of red grapes, here Garnacha Tintorera, Sousón, Merenzao, Brancellao, among others. This aged for seven months in new and used 500-liter French barrels. It opens with fruit and a subtle sanguine note, violet hints and delicate oak. The palate is slightly compact and flavorful, with a talc-like texture. This clearly reflects the local soils. 92 Wine Advocate The village red 2024 Val do Galir Mencía comes from two plots in the higher part of the Entoma village where people have the red varieties, mostly Mencía but also Brancellao, Sousón or Garnacha Tintorera on clay and slate soils. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 6,000-liter stainless steel vats and matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for seven months. It has notes of wild berries, herbs and flowers, with a balsamic touch, honey and beeswax, getting close to the nose of the Maruxa Mencía. It has a moderate 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.3 coupled with 5.8 grams of acidity. It has vibrant acidity and a fine-boned palate. 13,000 bottles were produced. It was bottled in June 2025.
