One of America’s great wine blends from the first name in Rhône varietals Tablas Creek. This blend of Roussanne, Picpoul Blanc, Grenache Blanc and a dash of a few others is a seriously contemplative wine. Aromatics of candied ginger, honeycomb and ripe apricot mingle with a dash of petrichor and wet stone. The wine’s texture and honeyed notes are balanced by savoury Mediterranean scrub, crushed chalk and lime leaf. Serious and seriously delicious.
A seductive nose of cooked lemons, cooked apricots, flowers, almond powder, and plenty of wild herbs. Medium body with a positive bitterness shaping the wine at the center and a creamy texture at the edges. Vibrant and focused finish with bright acidity and fresh pear character. 70% roussanne, 17% picpoul blanc, 10% grenache, 2% bourboulenc and 1% clairette blanche. From biodynamically grown grapes. A dramatic display of dusty florals, lemon oils, melon, and crushed almond waft up from the 2021 Esprit de Tablas Blanc. This is texturally thrilling with depths of ripe apple and sweet inner florals, all perfectly accentuated by zesty acidity. It finishes long and full of tension with a pleasant inner sweetness, lingering on young peach and mineral notes. Bury 2021 in the cellar. It’s a beauty. As no the importer of so many Rhône varieties, it’s surprise that Tablas Creek manages blends like few other domestic producers. This Roussanne, combination of 70% 17% Picpoul Blanc, 10% Grenache, 2% Bourboulenc and 1% Clairette Blanche shows clean nectarine and apricot aromas on the nose, with a light nuttiness. The palate’s chalky texture offers creamy flavors of cashew milk and apple blossoms.
The beautiful 2021 ‘Espirit Blanc de Tablas is another world-class release of this wine. This edition has considerably more Roussanne (70%) than the 2020 bottling. This varietal is really shining brightly here, with its hedonistic bent and plenty of body. Wet gravel notes combine with ripe cantaloupe, juicy peach, and suggestions of salted Brazil nuts. With a refined texture wait for the near-minute-long finish. Astonishingly good in its youth, this beauty will live on for another fifteenplus years to come. Drink 2023-2040.
The 2021 Esprit de Tablas Blanc is a blend of 70% Roussanne, 17% Picpoul Blanc, 10% Grenache Blanc, 2% Bourboulenc and 1% Clairette Blanche. It has slowly unfolding aromas of warm peaches, honeysuckle, white pepper and allspice. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated, spicy and fragrant with a focused spine of acidity and a long, latent finish. It will benefit from 2-3 years in bottle. 1,610 cases produced.

This combines 33% Roussanne, with 32% Grenache Blanc and smaller portions Picpoul, Clairette, Picardin, Bourboulenc. This is the smallest amount of Roussanne ever blended into this wine, as this varietal was farmed at less than a ton an acre. The nose is hugely complex. Macadamia nut, honeydew melon, bright kiwi and shades of nectarine with stony minerals all mark the nose. The body is voluptuous despite being only 12.5% alcohol. Silky smooth throughout the drinking experience, showing no rough edges, and loads of mouth-watering acidity. Wait for the exceedingly long finish that lingers on the tongue. This will cellar so beautifully. Drink 2024-2039
The 2022 Esprit de Tablas Blanc combines 33% Roussanne, 32% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul Blanc, 8% Picardin, 8% Clairette Blanche and 5% Bourboulenc. The nose is collected and composed, entering with a waxy, nutty richness lifted by succulent, energetic fruit aromas that gain intensity rapidly. The palate shows a beautiful balance of power, nuance and lift, with a mellow, soft texture lined with vibrant acidity through the rich, saline-tinged finish.
