Tablas Creek Dianthus Rose, Paso Robles 2022

Vinous
The 2022 Rosé Dianthus is spicy in character with a perfumed blend of white raspberry and peppery florals. It’s round and textural, with a pleasant inner sweetness complicated by mineral-tinged fruits and savory spices. This finishes tense, with noticeable length and a slight chewy sensation, yet remains incredibly fresh. The Dianthus is made up primarily of Mourvèdre and Grenache. It’s beautiful today but has the guts to mature nicely over the short term.

Two days of skin contact produces a hearty rosé with a depth of texture from the quintessential Paso producer—aromatics of herbs alongside bright citrus and stone and a hint of barley. The palate is lush, ripe and offers up plenty of savoury character to go along with its dwelling on cut strawberries and Rainier cherry flesh. Finishes with a touch of spiciness.

Peach skins, ripe strawberries, spices, and dried flowers on the nose. There are light nuances of nutmeg, too. Sleek and round-textured, reminiscent of a ripe nectarine. Creamy and seductive. A blend of 45% mourvedre, 38% grenache, 16% counoise and 1% cinsault. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.”

Always one of the great Rose wines made in North America, this incredible 2022 edition combines mainly Mourvèdre and Grenache with a large portion of Counoise (16%) and a touch of Cinsault. Very deep and concentrated, yet showing a beautiful underlying finesse, this shows beautiful flavor complexity and flavor density. Ripe Yakima cherry flavors collide with wild mushroom, cinnamon sticks, watermelon and shades of Mandarin orange rind. A total show-stopper, this beauty will easily live on for another eight years.
