RDV Vineyards
RdV Vineyard’s 16-acre property is nestled on a steep, rocky hillside in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The vineyard is divided into 11 parcels, each dedicated to cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
Renowned for its dedication to excellence, RdV Vineyard specializes in crafting world-class Bordeaux-style blends. Establishing the vineyard involved two years of intensive land preparation, during which the forest was cleared, and granite-rich terrain was unearthed—providing an ideal foundation for viticulture. Guided by esteemed experts from the United States and France, alongside years of meticulous research, RdV has honed techniques to unlock the potential of its distinctive terroir.
With a commitment to sustainable practices, every aspect of cultivation—spanning 30,000 vines—is performed by hand. This harmony with the land consistently yields wines of remarkable complexity and refinement, celebrated for their sophistication from the inaugural harvest onward.
In June 2024, RDV was acquired by Eutopia Estates which is owned by the Bouygues family of France. The portfolio of Eutopia estates includes famous wineries from France such as Chateau Montrose and Chateau Tronquoy in St-Estephe, Clos Rougard in Saumur and Domaine Rebourseau in Gevrey Chambertin. In anticipation of this exciting transition, transition, Rutger de Vink entrusted the Estate to successors who cherish the same foundational values: family, exceptional products, respect for the land, and a visionary approach. In many ways, the Bouygues have embraced Rutger’s vision of creating an iconic wine in an unlikely location, making them the perfect fit to guide RdV Vineyards into its next era.
Under this new ownership, the estate will start a new chapter under the name Lost Mountain. The rebranding is a natural outcome of the purchase and a celebration of new era. Doing business as “Lost Mountain” rather than RdV (Rutger de Vink’s initials), pays tribute to the remarkable terroir of this ancient knoll once beloved by America’s founding father, George Washington.
