Wine Advocate
The Monteleone 2020 Etna Rosso Qubba shows a shiny garnet color with a very vivid and lively appearance that sets the stage for the red fruit aromas that follow. There is wild cherry, raspberry and tangy cassis. Those bright primary fruit aromas cede to sweet spice, dried rose and crushed stone. There is a dusting of white pepper on the close. Qubba is 90% Nerello Mascalese and 10% Nerello Cappuccio, and only 2,300 bottles were made.

Attractive ripe berries and dark cherries with some crushed stones and pumice on the nose and palate. Medium body with medium round tannins that give form and texture to the wine. Drink now.

Vinous
The 2020 Etna Rosso Qubba is quite coy in the glass, showing dried strawberries and peppery herbs. This is sleek and racy, with a slender feel further enhanced by brisk acidity and tart wild berry fruits. It lingers long, potent and staining, leaving a resonance of licorice and rose.

Vinous
The 2021 Etna Rosso Qubba is smoky and darkly oral with a savory mix of
owery underbrush, ashen stones and dried black cherries. This presents
textures of pure silk and ripe wild berry fruits tinged with hints of rosemary and sage, all coasting over a stream of brisk acidity. Fine-grained tannins coat the palate as the 2021 tapers o long, structured and pleasantly chewy.

James Suckling
A juicy and rich red with blackberry and basalt character as well as forged steel. It’s medium-bodied with racy tannins and a fresh and pretty finish. Give it two or three years to come together. Try after 2025.

Wine Spectator
The nose is predominantly earthy and umami, with a flinty edge of pepper and graphite, then savory-sweet undertones of allspice, blood orange peel and strawberries. The palate is a mix of sweet and tart berries, with more spices and earth for cohesion, while relentless, stormy acid brings a surging, almost primitive energy.

Wine Advocate
The Monteleone 2022 Etna Rosso Qubba (with just 2,500 bottles created) is 85% Nerello Mascalese and 15% Nerello Cappuccio from alberello (bush-trained) vines planted in 1935 on the north side of the volcano. This wine boasts its own individual profile with aromas that lean toward cola, balsam or medicinal herb with sweet cherry and raspberry coulis at its core. The aromas are sassy and bright, but the wine tapers down considerably in terms of mid-palate to end with fine tannins. The Qubba ages in tonneaux for 14 months.
