The very orange and cloudy 2021 Pesseroles Brisat is a characterful skin-contact white produced with a blend of 30% each Garnacha Blanca and Picapoll Blanco and the rest Pedro Ximenes, Cariñena Blanca, Trepat Blanc and Xarel.lo, all harvested and fermented together with full clusters for a couple of weeks. It has a characterful nose that is very much marked by the skins, with notes of peach, quince, beeswax, pollen and an earthy touch. These sensations, Sara Pérez told me, take seven years to go away, and then come notes reminiscent of petrol, similar to other whites from slate soils (Germany). The palate is seriously tannic and with volume and tension, making it a very gastronomic wine. It has 12.78% alcohol, so it didn’t reach the minimum alcohol required by the Priorat appellation. It was bottled in March 2023. One day, I have to taste this wine from 2014 to see the evolution. Only 750 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023.

The 2021 Pesseroles Brisat is a blend of Picapoll Blanc, Pedro Ximénez and Garnatxa Blanca, sourced from Gratallops in Priorat. This orange wine was soaked on the skins for three weeks and with the stems for three months. It builds aromas of apricot and vermouth-like herbs, offering a taut and tannic yet refreshing mouthfeel. Brimming with energy and a distinctive “hippie” vibe,
this unique wine was kissed by the sun in the slate soils of Priorat.

The dark amber, almost orange 2022 Pesseroles Brisat, produced with Garnacha Blanca, Picapoll Blanc and Pedro Ximenez, macerated with skins for three weeks and then matured in glass demijohn, with the press wine matured in white clay containers that polish the wine in a way Sara Pérez likes. It has a textbook nose of an “orange” wine, plenty of quince and pollen. This style of wine requires patience and years in bottle to show its true character, because in the first few years, it’s greatly marked by the process. The challenge in 2022 was to keep the freshness and tension, especially in the finish. For now, it’s more about texture than nose. It finishes dry and with a sensation of fine tannins.

The 2022 Pesseroles Brisat from Gratallops, Priorat, is mostly Garnatxa
Blanca with Picapoll Blanc and Pedro Ximénez. It shows dried apricot, candied orange and kumquat, inciting in the brisat (orange wine) style. With skin tannins, compact structure and elevated freshness, it is nervy, balanced and funky.
