Maria Casanovas

Maria Casanovas distinguishes itself in the art of coupage, the blending of different varieties of wine which lay the foundations of the still wine that will finally be developed into an exceptional Cava. In 1984, after breathing the world of vineyards and wines for decades, the family’s younger generation launched Maria Casanovas Cava named for their pioneering predecessor a female winemaker in the early 1900’s.

The winery is located at the heart of the Penedés region, in Sant Sadurni d´Anoia, the capital of Cava. The landscape embraces breathtaking views of the hills, vines, forest and olive trees, with the greatest respect for the environment.

They own 10 hectares of vines, which are certified organic by the Catalan Council of Organic Agriculture, planted to Xarel•lo, Parellada, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They supplement their own production with smaller amounts of base wines, only from organic sources, which are thoroughly evaluated for both taste and technical aspects. They are also one of the pioneers in incorporating the Pinot Noir variety, which offers finesse and subtlety, and combining it with the elegance and complexity of Chardonnay.

True to their philosophy, Maria Casanovas produces only unique, complex and different Brut Nature wines, which are bone dry (no dosage) and which define their personal style.
