The VDP.GROSSE LAGE® Domprobst vineyard lies above the village of Graach on the Mosel River. This steep site rises from 110 to 260 meters above sea level, with slopes ranging from 45 to 70 percent. Its southwest to south-southwest exposure ensures optimal sun, while the grey-blue Devonian slate soils, enriched with clay, provide excellent water storage capacity. Protected from wind, the vineyard can become quite warm during the summer months.
Many of the vines here are exceptionally old—ungrafted, trained on individual stakes in the traditional style, and in some cases up to 100 years of age.
