Domaine Bruno Lorenzon

View Winery Website

Bruno Lorenzon began his career as a barrel broker for Tonnellerie Mercurey and a consultant in New Zealand and South Africa. His vineyards feature high-density planting at up to 20,000 vines per hectare; tall canopies reaching 170 centimeters for shade and better ripening; carefully timed soil cultivation to manage weeds, erosion and excess temperatures; and thoughtfully chosen rootstocks and massal selections to improve the domaine’s vine genetics. Fruit is harvested in small six-kilogram cases and kept cold with refrigeration. Reds see long macerations with elevated whole-bunch usage and low-temperature fermentation in stainless steel without chaptalization, and whites are subjected to a four-hour press cycle. Both colors see extended élevage in barrels made by Lorenzon himself using self-selected and seasoned wood with low toasting. This level of attention to detail is rare anywhere in Burgundy and reveals just what Mercurey and Montagny are capable of.
