Vinous
The 2015 Jean Faure has a very pleasant, youthful bouquet, delivering plenty of raspberry, wild strawberry, melted tar and cedar notes that possess more complexity than the previous vintage. The medium-bodied, finely tuned palate offers fine-grained tannins, well-judged acidity and a silky-smooth, mineral-rich finish (in fact, this is the most mineral-driven Jean Faure that I have tasted). This is an excellent 2015 that is drinking beautifully now, but it will offer another decade of drinking pleasure.

50% Cabernet Franc and a little Malbec. Fragrant, dark fruit and liquorice notes. Tannins are sweet, ripe and fine. Smooth texture with freshness running through and length on the finish. Really precise this year.

Wine Spectator
Ripe, with gently steeped plum and blackberry fruit infused with black tea and tobacco notes and backed by an elegant dark earth accent through the finish. Polished and fresh throughout. Best from 2019 through 2028. 5,417 cases made.

James Suckling
Floral and aromatic with dark-berry and rose character on the nose. Full body, layered and ripe tannins and a flavorful finish. Comes off a little short but still outstanding. Give it two or three years of bottle age to come together.

Decanter
Wonderfully floral cherry notes on the nose here – ripe, vibrant and appealing. Such great juicy impact, strawberries, cherries and redcurrants, really just hits the palate with brightness, energy and verve. An approachable style but with lots of layers, great acidity and a cooling menthol undertone. Really enjoyable with underlying power and precision. Excellent.

This has the ripe and rich fruit of the vintage, but is a bit sleeker in feel than most of its brethren, offering a savory streak and a flash of iron. Nice, lingering juniper and black tea notes make this distinctive too. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Best from 2023 through 2035. 6,000 cases made, 100 cases imported.

James Suckling
Beautiful complexity and finesse with tile, incense, light chocolate, hazelnut and plum aromas and flavors. Hints of dried meat, too. It’s medium-bodied with creamy tannins and a soft, refined finish. Drink after 2023, but it’s surprisingly attractive now.

Vinous
The 2019 Jean Faure is a quirky Saint-Émilion because of the high percentage of Franc in the blend, which lends soaring aromatic intensity. Sage, mint, tobacco, cedar, licorice and red berry fruit all build in the glass, with bright, saline notes that give energy and shape. Jean Faure is one of the most distinctive Saint-Émilions readers will come across. The 2019 turned out beautifully.

Wine Advocate
Offering up aromas of minty blackberries, licorice and sweet spices, the 2019 Jean Faure is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, melting tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long, similarly minty finish. From a certified-organic property located between Cheval Blanc and Grand-Corbin-Despagne, this is a charming, expressive wine. Cabernet Franc represents more than 60% of the blend.

A particular success for this Cabernet Franc-dominant estate situated next to Cheval Blanc, the 2020 Jean Faure bursts with aromas of cherries, minty blackberries, rose petals and cardamom. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, it’s supple and suave, its enveloping core of vibrant fruit concealing sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with an expansive, perfumed finish. This beautiful wine stands out for its perfume and its ultra-refined texture.

A tight, firm red with blackberry and plum character, as well as mushroom undertones. It’s full-bodied with creamy tannins and a long finish. Very solid and dense in the center palate. 65% cabernet franc, 30% merlot and 5% malbec. From organically grown grapes.

The 2020 Jean Faure marries sumptuous fruit with quite a bit of structure. Black fruit, chocolate, spice, leather, tobacco and incense all come alive in the glass. This layered, vibrant Saint-Émilion is super energetic and full of character.

Broad and soft in feel, but with friendly boysenberry and mulberry fruit flavors laced with hints of sweet tobacco and black tea. Shows a subtle loamy twinge on the finish. A solid effort for the vintage. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Drink now through 2030. 5,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.
