Champagne Jacquesson, Lieu-dit Vauzelle Terme Grand Cru (Aÿ) Extra Brut 2013

Vinous
The 2013 Extra-Brut Aÿ Vauzelle Terme is a wild, exotic Champagne. It’s a wine for readers who love Pinot Noir. Kirsch, hard candy, ginger, spice and rose petal are all amplified to the maximum. This dense, extroverted Champagne is absolutely stunning, but it is not at all subtle. I loved it, but I could also see it being too excessive for some palates. Tasting it is like driving a car extremely fast – there’s no shortage of adventure. Bottled with no dosage.

Wine Advocate
The 2013 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Aÿ – Vauzelle Terme is showing nicely with a floral, fresh bouquet, evoking aromas of spring flowers, lily, licorice, pastry and crisp pear, but aeration reveals pastry and citrus notes. The Champagne is perfectly balanced on the palate and clearly expresses the fruity, straightforward character of the 2013 vintage. This 100% Pinot Noir was produced in only 2,522 bottles and 155 magnums.

A pure pinot from a single vineyard in the village of Ay. The dried peaches and strawberries come through clearly, together with fresh, sliced strawberries and cashews. The palate is medium-bodied with spicy, bitter orange and lemon and hints of salted nuts. Complex and ready to drink.
