THE COLOR is still vivid without being too intense. THE NOSE reveals a unique blend of aromas combining very ripe black and red fruit tinged with subtle fresh leather notes. THE MOUTH, displays the same aromas of fruit and leather combined with notes of wood and spice. The attack remains very fresh, offering great intensity, leading to a remarkably silky and soft finish. The silky quality lingers mingling with a vibration that distinguishes this unique wine from all others. Bouchard Pere & Fils, Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus 2021	94 Decanter This wine is among the most successful Beaune premier crus in 2021. The aromas begin with mulberry and cassis fruit with notes of earth, menthol, and smoke. Rich and substantial on the palate, it features surprisingly full body, firm tannins and rewarding length. The grapes are from the Bouchard monopole of nearly four hectares within Beaune Grèves. In 2021, 30% were fermented as whole clusters to ensure complexity and freshness. This should open well with a few years in bottle and age over the next two decades. 91-93 Vinous The 2021 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jesus 1er Cru is on sandier soil than the rest of Les Grèves. This is more complex on the nose by comparison, a touch more tension, and with greater sapidity. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip, quite firm tannins, good backbone. A solid Beaune Grèves with a welcome dash of black pepper on the finish. There’s a tangible difference in quality between this an the regular Grèves bottling this year. Bouchard Pere & Fils, Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus 2022	96 Decanter The 2022 Baby Jesus is a wine of gorgeous intensity, with alluringly ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with notes of peony and spice. The forward fruits continue on the palate as intensely sweet and silky, with a density and grip that are only apparent with time. The grapes are from nearly four hectares of vines, although only the oldest vines and most concentrated fruit are used for this bottling, with some declassified into Beaune du Château. This wine will open in five to seven years and should easily drink for 30 more after the harvest. 93-95 Vinous The 2022 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jesus 1er Cru has a clean and fresh nose of maraschino cherries, candied orange peel and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and gentle grip, slightly powdery in texture. The attractive, mocha-tinged finish lingers in the mouth. This will drink very well after 5-7 years.
