The Beaux Frères Vineyard sits atop Ribbon Ridge in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, a picturesque 88-acre farm surrounded by majestic Douglas fir trees. Established in 1986, the story began when Michael G. Etzel, a wine salesman from Colorado, stumbled upon this foreclosed pig farm while exploring Oregon. With its serene hillsides and lush pasture, Michael envisioned a vineyard that could thrive in the blossoming local wine scene.
Backed by his sister Pat and her husband, renowned wine critic Robert Parker Jr., Michael transformed the farm into a celebrated winery, focusing solely on Pinot Noir. Planting began in 1988, and by 1990, the first vines produced fruit for winemakers Ken Wright and Dick Ponzi. A year later, Beaux Frères Winery was born, with its first estate vintages quickly gaining recognition.
Today, the vineyard remains a family affair, with Michael’s son, Mike D. Etzel, leading the next generation in crafting exceptional wines and caring for the land. Over three decades later, Beaux Frères stands as a testament to the family’s dedication to producing world-class Pinot Noir while preserving the beauty of Ribbon Ridge.
