Chateau Mouton Rothschild
In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton, renaming it Château Mouton Rothschild. Located in Pauillac, Médoc, the estate gained prominence under Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who took over in 1922. He introduced complete bottling at the château in 1924 and began commissioning artists to illustrate the labels, creating the renowned “Art and Label” exhibition, featuring works by Dalí, Warhol, and Chagall. The 82-hectare vineyard, with vines averaging 50 years old, benefits from pebbly gravel soils that capture heat for optimal grape ripening, and a clay-gravel subsoil that contributes to the wine’s unique power and elegance.
A mild, humid spring in 2024 led to early bud break and flowering, followed by a hot June and late-summer heatwaves, yet the vineyard thrived, with the harvest carried out under varied conditions. Today, the estate is managed by the children of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild.
