Chateau Brane Cantenac
Château Brane-Cantenac, founded in the 18th century and originally known as “Gorce,” is a prestigious second growth estate from the 1855 Médoc classification, located on prime gravelly soils in Cantenac. Acquired in 1833 by Baron de Brane, often called the “Napoleon of the Vines,” the estate was renamed Brane-Cantenac. In 1925, it was purchased by Léonce Récapet, then owner of Château Margaux, and later passed to his grandson Lucien Lurton in 1956. Since 1992, Henri Lurton, Lucien’s son and an experienced oenologist, has overseen the estate, with a focus on expressing the complexity and elegance of its terroir. Under his leadership, Brane-Cantenac has seen significant modernization, including the addition of a state-of-the-art cellar and optical sorting technology, all aimed at producing exceptional wines that reflect both the vintage and the estate’s distinctive character.
