“A formidable concentration of distilled and fresh black raspberries scents the Pas de l’Escalette 2009 Terrasses du Larzac Le Grand Pas and follows on a silken palate charged with admirable energy and primary juiciness for its vintage and displaying a resonant depth of interaction among rich fruit, chalk, and savory meatiness. A saline suffusion loosens the salivary glands and – like the walnut piquancy and iodine tincture exhibited in this beauty’s long finish – points to the presence of 50% Carignan. This should be absorbing to follow for the next 6-8 years.” -Robert Parker

FOR THE 2012 VINTAGE
More dark fruited, structured and firm, the 2012 Terrasses du Larzac Le Grand Pas is made from 70% Grenache, 15% Carignan and 15% Syrah, mostly destemmed, that was fermented and aged in oak tanks.

It exhibits lots of earth, truffle, dark fruits and bouquet garni-like qualities to go with a medium-bodied, tannic feel on the palate. It has good character, but the tannin level will be something to watch here. I think it’s a fair click back from the awesome 2011, but give it a year in the cellar.

#26 – Quite light but scented fresh orange peel notes with some cinsault to lighten and lift the palate. Just a touch of oak but it is well balanced with fruit, which will develop a mellow chocolate richness in a year or two.
