Alphonse Mellot Sancerre BLANC Les Herses 2014

The cuvee “Les Herses” comes from a southeast exposed 1.6 hectare parcel with 45-year-old Sauvignon vines with flinty clay soils. The cuvee is fermented and aged in wooden vats and tonneaus for ten months and then another six months into vats. The wine is full-bodied, pure, mineral and fresh, very well and firmly structured but still very young, developing an enormous citric and salty length of great purity and tension.

93pts The Wine Advocate – 2014 vintage

“The 2014 Sancerre Les Herses is very clear, pure and mineral on the nose, displaying white fruit aromas, but in a very discreet way and combined with herbal aromas. On the palate, this 13% alcohol wine is very clear, straight, extremely pure and very salty on the palate; it is a grippy Sancerre with a very stimulating expression of pure terroir. Endlessly salty, but also floral in the aftertaste. Great with fish and seafood as well as cheese. The wine is sourced in a 1.6-hectare, southeast-facing plot with averaging 45-year-old vines on flinty clay soils.”
